Not many people know that this house, cozily embedded among pine trees in the prestigious Birutes Street next to the bend of the Neris, is the first stone house in Zverynas, built in 1860.

Back then, this was where the hosiery factory “Triumf” was located, owned by a landowner from St. Petersburg, Eduard von Heiman. Electricity was installed in the factory in 1897. In 1910, it was purchased by the merchant Rabinovicius, who changed it into a lock and metalworking factory, “Feniks”. The factory was lucrative enough to lay the pavement to St. George’s Prospect (now called Mickeviciaus St.) leading up to its premises.

In 1925, the factory was sold to a Lithuanian charity organization, which established a dormitory for girls.

In 1947, the Film Chronicle of Lithuania, which later grew into the Lithuanian Film Studio, was transferred here.

Here, the first filming pavilions were located, sounds for movies were recorded, music written for them, and screenplays discussed. Famous Lithuanian directors worked in the building: Vytautas Mikalauskas, Napoleonas Bernotas, Raimondas Vabalas, Vytautas Zalakevičius and others.

Later, the Association of Lithuanian Cinematographers found its home here right up until 2004.
